The Reserve

1,334 Square Kilometers of Wild Rajasthan

Ranthambore is a mosaic of dry deciduous forest, rocky ravines and shimmering lakes, spread beneath the walls of a thousand-year-old fort — home to one of the highest tiger densities anywhere on earth.

Beyond the tigers, the reserve shelters leopards, sloth bears, marsh crocodiles and rich birdlife, set against some of the most dramatic scenery in India's national park system.

The reserve is split into ten numbered zones, each capped for vehicles and booked as part of your permit — a choice that shapes your odds as much as the season does. Many visitors pair their safari with a half-day at the thousand-year-old fort standing over the core zone, or plan two drives across different zones rather than one, since no single zone or session guarantees a sighting.

Questions Answered

Frequently Asked

What is the success rate for tiger sightings?+
Ranthambore has one of the highest tiger densities globally (~1 tiger per 8 sq km), but sightings are never guaranteed. Success rates range 40–70% depending on season, time of day, and luck. Even without tigers, the biodiversity is spectacular.
How many people per jeep?+
Standard open-top jeeps accommodate 4–6 passengers plus a guide and driver. Private bookings can arrange personalised safaris with smaller groups for premium rates.
Can I visit alone or do I need a group?+
Solo visitors are welcome — you’ll be grouped with other tourists. If you prefer a private experience, premium solo safari packages are available.
Are children allowed on safaris?+
Children 5+ are welcome. Younger children may be restricted due to the duration and unpredictability. Contact us for specific cases.
What happens if I don’t see a tiger?+
The reserve guarantees rich biodiversity regardless of tiger sightings. Non-sighting refunds apply only to documented close encounters that endangered visitor safety.
Can I use my smartphone camera?+
Smartphones with digital zoom can work, but a DSLR with a 200mm+ telephoto lens is recommended for quality wildlife photography.
